Eastern Health is asking patients to avoid going to Health Sciences, St. Clare’s IS unless necessary

Eastern Health tells patients to only go to the emergency room at the Health Sciences Center and St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital if absolutely necessary.

The health authority says the two hospitals are experiencing “unprecedented pressure”, leading to long waiting times for patients.

They ask people to only come to the emergency room if they need immediate care, including critical medical conditions, serious injuries, heart attacks, strokes and breathing difficulties.

Patients with less urgent needs are asked to consider alternatives before going to the emergency room, such as visiting a family doctor, a clinic or calling 811.
